"...we went outside the gate to a RIVERSIDE where we were supposing there would be a place of prayer." Acts 16:13

Our Roots

The first meeting of this congregation (then called NORTHSIDE) occurred in the fall of 1940 with sixteen Christians. By 1948, the group had expanded to 165 members. In the intervening years Northside provided assistance in the building of several new congregations. Also, as the city grew, many of our members moved on to work and lead these new congregations. Due to insufficient parking space, we completed a move to a new building on the bustling west side on New Years eve 1982. The name was new (RIVERSIDE) but the love of this Christian family always remains the same.

Our Hope

We want, more than anything to please our Lord. To accomplish this, we strive to study His word, provide a caring fellowship for believers, and reach out wit the life-giving message of the Bible. We are enthusiastic about planting the same seed (the Word of God, Luke 8:11) that Jesus planted. Our hope is to be the church that Jesus intended. [ Return to top ]

Our Shepherds

Lawrence Atchison, Herb Crosby, Joe Johnson, Kent Hall, Wil McKenzie, Loren Riblett

Our Deacons

J K Brock, Ron Hawkins, Mike Hendrix, Jim Palmer, Lee Underwood

Our Preacher

Our preacher is Mark McKenzie. He is available to serve the needs of the whole church. Mark grew up here and, after going away for work and college returned to preach in 1985. Until June of 2000, he and his father, Wil, literally shared the pulpit at this congregation. Mark is also a licenced funeral director. [ Return to top ]

Our Work in the Lord

Children's Worship

A teaching tool that allows children (age 3 through 3rd grade) to learn at their own level. The children participate in a short assembly that includes singing, prayer, and a Bible story. Then various activities are used to reinforce the Bible story.

Education Program

This is designed to provide a Christian education to all that have the desire to learn God's will. We have classes for all ages on Sunday morning and Wednesay night. Also, we have preachers and others who are ready to study the Bible with people in their own homes in a type of study of their choosing.

Youth Ministry

To provide for the spiritual needs of our youth, elder Kent Hall plans activities to promote Christian fellowship and good peer pressure, including some out-of-town trips to special programs. The young people have also learned to serve through various projects. Since April of 2001 the congregation sponsors "Spiritual Explosion," an annual "youth rally." [ Return to top ]

Service Ministry

We want to help provide for the emergency physical needs of our members. This would include caring for the sick, the elderly, and those that have lost a loved one.

Counseling

Our preacher brings many years of experience to the task of enrichment, support, and spiritual guidance. Individual, marital, and family counseling are available as needed.

...and many other good things are being accomplished through the Christians meeting at this location. [ Return to top ]
