In His Steps

by Tim O'Hearn

[Piano version of music] [Vocal sound file sung by the composer] [Video sung by the composer] [Score of song]

They huddled together, the minefield around,
A fam'ly too frightened to move.
A man and his dog came testing the ground
A clear path to safety to prove.
Taking a child up in his arms,
He told them, "Follow me.
Just follow in my footsteps
And soon you will be free."

chorus: In his footsteps I am walking.
In his footsteps I am safe.
He goes before.
He watches o'er.
In his footsteps I have life.

Surrounded by sin and so frightened to move,
I did not know which way to go.
Then Jesus appeared and stood at my side
The pathway to heaven to show.
Taking this child up by the hand
The Lord said, "Follow me.
Just follow in my footsteps
And soon you will be free."

chorus: In his footsteps I am walking.
In his footsteps I am safe.
He goes before.
He watches o'er.
In his footsteps I have life.

This song was written for, but as far as I know not used at, the Albuquerque Women’s Retreat in August of 2013, arranged that year by the women of the Riverside congregation. The theme for the retreat was, as you should have figured out by now, “Walking In His Footsteps.” I wrote the song in time for the retreat, but it did not get arranged until recently. So, for you ladies that went to the retreat but missed the song, maybe this will remind you of something you learned there.
