RECENTLY I WAS SENT WHAT WERE EXERPTS FROM THE BIBLE. THEY RELATED TO A VARIETY OF SUBJECTS ONE OF THESE WAS HOW MUCH A PERSON SHOULD CHARGE FOR SELLING THEIR SISTER INTO SLAVERY. THIS WAS SUBMITTED BY SOMEONE THAT WAS PRO GAY RIGHTS TRYING TO SHOW THAT THE BIBLE WAS OUT DATED. IF POSSIBLE CAN YOU SHED SOME LIGHT HERE REGARDING ITEMS THAT DO NOT APPLY AND THOSE THAT STILL CARRY WEIGHT WITHIN THE CHURCH
Since you did not include a copy of the list it would be difficult to show which apply and which don't. I have seen a copy of the list (and heard it quoted on the TV show "The West Wing") and remember some of the specifics.
Basically, that list is an attempt to show God to be outdated, based on misapplications of portions of the law of Moses. The one scripture that seems to apply to those who are behind the list of questions is Psalm 14:1--"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
Most of the questions on that list are ridiculous, and merely show the questioner to have no knowledge of scripture. For instance, one asks something to the effect that if my neighbor offers a burnt offering in his back yard, what is the best way to kill him. This obviously disregards that sacrifices were offered only by the priests at the Temple, which no longer exists, so there are no more burnt offerings.
The question you referred to, about how much to ask for if I sell my sister into slavery is another example. Ex 21:7-11 starts "If a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant." First, it was not a command to sell a daughter. Second, it was not slavery, but service. Third, it was for the ultimate purpose of marriage. The question implies it was a command to sell into the modern concept of slavery, which the scripture does not support.
My favorite on the list shows that whoever made it up did not do very much research. In fact it shows he has no idea what he is talking about. The question is that if it is forbidden to touch a pig, does a football player violate this if he is wearing gloves. This shows first that the questioner has not studied "to show himself approved unto God, handling aright the word of truth." (2 Tim 2:15) The law was for the Jews and does not apply to the majority of Christians. Secondly, it shows the questioner has no idea what he is talking about, even apart from scripture. Although a football is called "the pigskin," they are made of cowhide or rubber. So the question is ridiculous on its face.
Someone went to great effort to show how many foolish questions he could write. Others have perpetuated this foolishness, and all because they are not willing to follow God's law against homosexual acts. To me this says more against the "homosexual community" than it does in their favor.
I have, since this question was originally published, obtained the list of questions. My answers to each can be found at What Does the Bible Say About.. Ridiculing God's Law?"
