What Does the Bible Say About..Men Wearing Braids?

Is it all right for a man to wear braids?

The only passage I could find that mentions braids is 1 Timothy 2:8-10. "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." This says nothing about braids on men. Some think it forbids women to braid their hair, but I read it as saying that good works are more important than good looks.

The other passage that talks about men's hair is 1 Corinthians 11:1-16. That passage is really talking about authority and not about hair length. In verse 16 Paul essentially concludes by saying, "I haven't really been talking about hair length, but if someone missed my point I don't have any custom about hair length, and neither does the church."

What is important is not whether a man wears braids or not; there was a time I would have been condemned by some for wearing a beard. What matters is what one believes and does, not how he looks.
