What Does the Bible Say About..Business?

I want to know what the Bible says about business.

Answer

What the Bible says about business is a pretty broad topic. The bible mentions some businesses (carpentry, tentmaking, swineherder, etc.) without further comment. It would take time to compile a list of every business mentioned in the Bible.

Proverbs 31 talks about a virtuous woman, and mentions some of her business dealings. Genesis 38 tells about Judah conducting business with someone he thought was a harlot, and Judges 16 mentions that Samson had business dealings with harlots.

In Matthew 21:12 Jesus drove people out of the Temple who were conducting business there. Amos, the prophet, ran two businesses, shepherding and sycamore tree tending.

Several passages talk about how God hates those who cheat at business. Generally they condemn the businessman who measures by two sets of standards, depending on whether he is giving or receiving. See Leviticus 19:36-36, Deuteronomy 25:13-15, Micah 6:10-11, and Proverbs 11:1, 16:11, and 20:10, 23.

I would suggest you find a good Topical Bible (at a library or from a preacher) and look up the specific aspect of business that you want to know about.
