What does the Bible say about college fraternities and sororities?
Since those kinds of organization did not exist when the Bible was written it says nothing about them. Because of the bad reputation of some fraternities and sororities, some of the colleges sponsored by some churches of Christ have “social clubs,” although they are essentially the same thing.
Although the Bible doesn’t address fraternities and sororities directly, some of the most notorious activities of these groups are condemned. Someone once said the first several chapters of the book of Proverbs could be a description of the evils of gangs, but it could also describe some fraternities. When they get into wild parties, sex, drugs, and alcohol then they violate some of the principles of the Bible.
On the other hand, many fraternities and sororities perform many charitable acts and services, which could never be condemned. Others may not do anything really positive but don’t get into the negative either.
I guess what I am saying is that fraternities and sororities, like people, should be judged by their actions. They should not be praised or condemned as a whole because each has its own personality.
