What Does the Bible Say About..Door Knocking?

I was just wondering if it is biblical to go door knocking or if the bible condemns it.

Answer

I am going to assume that you mean knocking doors to try to convert people to Christianity or to invite them to a function at the church building. (Although, if you mean knocking on doors for any other reason than knocking and running to play a cruel joke the answer is probably the same.)

The Bible says nothing to forbid knocking on a door. It even gives instances of people who did knock on doors. As far as going from door to door to spread the gospel, the command is to “go ye therefore, and teach all nations, immersing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” (Matthew 18:19-20) Since the scripture doesn’t specify how to go, then any method that is not clearly in violation of a command of God would be acceptable.

Two qualifications to that statement need to be made. If it is illegal in your community to do it, then it is a violation of God’s word to do so. If a person has a sign up requesting no soliciting, or if there is such a policy in an apartment building, then you should respect their request. There are other ways to reach people, and most are more effective.
