What Does the Bible Say About..Jesus Not Knowing Something?

I can't remember where this is in the Bible, but Jesus talks about when he comes back and he states that no one knows the hour- not even me. How could He not know since he is God?

Answer

“But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” (Mark 13:32)

There is some debate over whether Jesus was talking about the destruction of Jerusalem (which is what the context is about) or the end of the world. Whichever he is talking about doesn’t change your question. How could he not know, if he is God?

It would appear that while Jesus was on earth, in human form, there were certain limitations on him that he would not have had in his heavenly form. For instance, he could be tempted as a man, while he couldn’t before or after. “But was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15) “God cannot be tempted with evil.” (James 1:13) It is possible (probable), then, that Jesus could be without the full knowledge about the time of which he was speaking until he returned to the Father.

One other passage that would seem to indicate that he gave up some of his knowledge and power to become man can be found in Philippians 2:5-8. “Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.”
